the vanquished victor sunk upon her breast.
at length, with love and wine at once oppressed
We first meet Francis after he has sent elven archers to kill the caravan that Lloyd is guarding, which holds the Staff of Cainan, one of the relics of Astonishia. He immediately respects Lloyd for not running, although the rest of his company has been killed. Lloyd faces off with Francis, but is easily taken down by an incredibly fast and strong Francis.
Francis appears again in the town of Port Bermire, demanding the other relics Lloyd has in his possession: the Cultrun Ruby and Aldred Crystal. He is stopped short when the town is suddenly attacked by elven forces. This is where we see Francis really isn't a bad guy. He becomes more interested on who ordered the attack, killing innocent villagers (well somewhat innocent, as this village traded in elven slaves). Lloyd rushes to attack the aged Queen Brimhild, but Francis quickly parries his attack.
Dryden somehow managed to escape the Hell he was flung into by both Lezail and Francis, and is working with Queen Brimhild, who wants her youth returned to her and to cleanse the world. The relics being collected are for the purpose of recussitating Kasirak, the God of Destruction. Francis knew this, but loved Brimhild too much to see her suffer, so he worked to help gather the relics.
Our final encounter with Francis, he is guarding the entrance to Fort Ganberg, inside of which Brimhild is summoning Kasirak. Although he is capable of stopping Lloyd and his party, he faulters at the last moment and is defeated. Lloyd questions the reason he faltered and Francis replies "A knight filled with doubts always has an uneasy heart and shaky hands...Ugh...please show Brimhild the right path. My beloved Brimhild...". And that is the end of our dear lovesick knight.
